Hope restored for Corby's Big Blue Bus

Hope restored for Corby's Big Blue Bus

Corby based, Hope church call on Bodyshop experts TruckEast to recraft their vision for community support. The result, a re-sculpted corner of a double-decker bus that is now in service once again.

Four years in the making, a vision was brought to life for Minister Damian Carr and the parish of Hope Church; a mobile service to support detached youth work and parents in Corby and the surrounding villages. Aptly named the big blue bus, it was a result of hard work, generous fundraising and grants and a passion to help more people.

Unfortunately, it hadn't long been in service, before it suffered some serious damage that took it off the road. Looking for known bodywork experts, they approached Wellingborough based TruckEast, who quickly began the project.

With significant damage to the corner of the bus, the first stage was to strip it right back before any restoration could take place. Its age meant a lack of replacement parts available, but this didn't hinder the work and new panels were freshly sculpted out of fibreglass, both internally and externally. The skilled team then rebuilt the corner framework of the bus, before it was prepped and painted using TruckEast's full height spray booth and vision colour match system. Internally, finishing touches such as adding a whiteboard where a window used to be enhanced the practicality of the space.

"To look at the vehicle now, you would never be able to tell that there was an issue," comments Damian Carr, Minister of Hope Church.

"TruckEast have effectively sculpted a new corner for us. The level of craftsmanship is absolutely incredible and we are over the moon with the results," he continues.

Following the collection, its debut outing was part of the community Christmas activities throughout December, with Carol Singing taking place at Care Homes around Corby. The mobile nature of the bus allows these festivities to take place with the current restrictions in Northamptonshire.
